Meet Crystal’s Family & Their Furry, Four-Legged Loved Ones

Woman with dog after graduating Family Promise of Morris County's shelter program.

Like many families, when Crystal's family first experienced homelessness, she not only worried about where they would sleep each night but what would happen to their four-legged loved ones.

Upon entering Family Promise’s Emergency Shelter Program, Crystal was relieved to learn of our Pet Care Program, through which her dog and two cats would be well taken care of , giving her family peace of mind in their time of crisis. She reflects upon her experience below.

Since I was a small child, I was an animal lover, always wanting to rescue all types of animals. Now as an adult, I'm able to do that! I own one rescued dog and two rescued cats. I have grown very fond of them. When the world is crazy and my days are going wild, nothing is better than coming home to their faces waiting at the door… it does something to my heart.”

Crystal continues, “Being able to care for my furry little loves sometimes is hard financially, but we always make it through (with help of course!). I'm so grateful for the help we receive through Family Promise’s Pet Care Program, because I'm able to give my furry friends what they need, aside from all the love my children and I have for them! They are a part of our family, and they give unconditional love and affection, often when we need it most!”

Congrats to Crystal and her family, who are now graduates of our Emergency Shelter Program!

The power of our community’s generosity and mission to end homelessness and housing insecurity, together, truly shines through in stories such as theirs. We are so grateful!

About Family Promise’s Pet Care Program:

The Program works to make sure that community members experiencing homelessness and their pets are stably housed or sheltered. It also provides financial support to ensure pet’s basic needs, like food, vet care, grooming, and more, are covered.

At Family Promise, we believe that pets are part of the family. And no family member’s care should fall to the wayside if they experience financial hardship or housing instability. On Tuesday, November 29, you can help make a difference in the lives of those we serve by donating to Family Promise's Giving Tuesday fundraiser.
